Our carpenters carefully disconnected the old tops, cut the 42-inch raised drywall bar wall down flush with the 34.5-inch base cabinets, and laser-shimmed the cabinet boxes within 1/16-inch across the entire kitchen so the heavy 3cm stone sits without bridging tension. Because the new 15-inch breakfast-bar overhang exceeded the 10-inch unsupported limit of the Marble Institute of America (MIA), we routed 3/8-inch thick solid steel T-brackets flush into the top of the cabinet framing—supporting over 600 pounds of leaning load without bulky wooden corbels bumping knees.

Using a digital laser templating device, we mapped the crooked drywall corners along the perimeter walls so the stone could be CNC-waterjet scribed with tight wall tolerances. During installation, our crew used pneumatic Gorilla Grip vacuum seam setters and custom-tinted UV-stable two-part epoxy to pull the perimeter seam tight to a hairline 1/32-inch joint, matching the directional flow of the Calacatta veining down the 45-degree mitered waterfall island leg.
