Silencing Squeaks & Insulating Over-Garage Bedrooms

Once a new carpet is laid, you cannot easily fix a squeaky floor. Unlike big-box sub-crews who rush pad straight over noisy OSB, our carpenters walked every square foot of the exposed second-floor deck, driving over 800 2-inch threaded subfloor screws directly into the joists and applying acoustical sealant along the perimeter bottom plates above the garage to block cold winter drafts. We then installed an 8-lb density, 7/16-inch memory-foam cushion featuring a top SpillGuard liquid barrier that stops pet accidents or spills from soaking into the subfloor while allowing sub-surface moisture vapor to breathe.

Mechanical Power-Stretching & Invisible Seam Engineering

Adhering strictly to the Carpet and Rug Institute’s CRI-105 installation standard, we anchored heavy-duty double-nail tack strips around the perimeter, sealed all seams inside natural window light paths using low-profile thermobond seam tape and a grooved seam roller, and stretched every room in an 8-point star pattern using a telescoping mechanical power stretcher. Proper 1% to 1.5% tension locks the backing tightly across the tack pins so the carpet will never ripple or buckle during humid Western PA summers.

Door Undercutting, HVAC Airflow & Trim Carpentry

Thick luxury pile and 8-lb padding increase total floor height by nearly half an inch. Rather than leaving bedroom doors dragging across the new plush carpet and starving the central furnace of return airflow, our in-house carpenters planed the bottom of all six solid-core interior doors and checked HVAC pressure differentials across the closed bedrooms. On the main staircase, our installers hand-upholstered a custom patterned woven runner tightly contoured around every bullnose oak tread and riser.
